SIMMER NEWSLETTER N.7 2006 |
By admin on 9/21/2006 |
|
– Ben Proffit and fellow Simmer rider Darren "Dazza" Mitchell got their money's worth down in El Tur, Egypt, including some really good freestyle and mast climbing sessions. As of now Ben's back in the UK chasing the wind while waiting for the upcoming Red Bull Storm Chase event as well as the UK freestyle nationals. A lot of chasing right there, Mr. Proffit's ultimate sidekick would inevitably be Chevy Chase. Don't know if he does gig's like that though.

By admin on 9/21/2006 |
|
– Ascanio D'Ascanio on the other hand teamed up with Simmer Style sail designer Jason Diffin to kick it in the windy Gorge on some new 3.3 prototypes among other things only to find out how well these tiny new sails perform. With plans to visit Jericuacuara in Brazil, Capetown in South Africa, and finally Maui in spring, Ascanio's made sure to fit in all the world's premier places to cover all the different styles of sailing he likes. Now take that cover, add age and you'll get an Ascanio interview in the latest Spanish Fuerza 7, a grubby sequence in Spanish Surf A Vela's August issue and a double spread of a back loop from the Gorge in US Windsurfing Magazine. Pictures attached below are the double spread from the US Windsurfing Magazine as well as a planing forward sequence.

– Also returning to Maui after a full-blown summer in the Gorge is Simmer sail designer Jason Diffin who was welcomed back with surf on all sides of the island. Ho'okipa with 2-4' peaks coming through while the islands southern shores offered a couple of head high swells with nice conditions. With the Simmer team in town all fired up waiting for the winter swells to roll in, JD says it's good to be home again.

Kai "Flykatcher" Katchadourian in Sweden |
SIMMER NEWSLETTER N.7 2006 |
By admin on 9/14/2006 |
|
– If there's no pictures of Kai "Flykatcher" Katchadourian below, this story won't tell you whether or not it's because Swedish Simmer dealer Marcus Bohman was too intimidated by "Katcher's" planing push loops, and thus refused to send in the evidence. Either way the truth might just be somewhere in between Halmstad and Varberg along Sweden's south west coast where some of the local spots was firing during the beginning of September and "Katcher" joined the locals to smack a few waves backside and push Marcus sensitive buttons with a few loops. "Katcher's" currently back in the SF's Bay Area with some south swells heading his way; so don't be surprised if he'll be pushing it again.

Rudy Castorina back on Maui |
SIMMER NEWSLETTER N.7 2006 |
By admin on 9/11/2006 |
|
– According to Maui based Rudy Castorina there's not much that beats getting straight off the plane from Europe in August and head straight down to La Peruse for a glassy surf session, then hop across to Oahu the next day for some fantastic south shore action with un-crowded, head high surf in perfect turquoise water. That is of course if Ho'okipa is flat as a speed training camp. Then come September and we're talking logo size north swells rolling in at Ho'okipa along with some 4.7 side-off shore winds. So from now on you know where to find Mr. Castorina. To get a glimpse of Rudy on some un-crowded Indo waves try one of the following publications: Latest issue of French Planchemag as well as the latest issue of Italian Funboard.

– Also waiting for the winter swells is the Pappasrock boys Arnie T and Rich Dave who've spent the summer on the freestyle side of the SF Bay Area nailing a few new tricks here and there, proving that age doesn't necessarily have to be an issue in windsurfing unless you make it one.
