Another one getting the best of Maui is Rudy Castorina who got served 5 days of Apocalyptic 50 knot Kona winds along with 8-10 foot waves that made way for some glassy surf at Ho'okipa and tow-in on the outer reefs once the wind finally dropped. As Rudy wrote to tell us this he got a call from the beach saying that the tradewinds where back and Ho'okipa was firing so he had to go. Ah well, until he's back, check out these recent surf shots of him. Photo: Jono Knight & MNeal.net

SIMMER STYLE NEWS LETTER N.1 2007 |

Now for a quite chilly wake up call after that little Caribbean daydream that was on the house:
"Sorry fella missed your email! Getting about million emails about Viagra a day and your got lost in there! Cheers ā Ben"
With a mail like that we figured we wouldn't have to much to write about Mr. Proffitt this month, but what do you know, he got back on track and dropped us a few lines saying he's currently in Cape Town, South Africa and that the wind's been a bit strange. With strange winds it's not so strange he's holding on with just one hand while back looping and making sure his other hand keeps fingers crossed for the wind to go back to normal.

Kai "Flykatcher" Katchadourian let's us in on some of his thoughts:
"-It was a December to remember as the crowds thinned out and the Simmer local crew have been holding it down, Natty G, Rudy C, Francisco P, Freddy S, Keith T, Jason D and the Flykatcher all getting their share...good times...wondering a lot of sessions "where is everybody" though, not that it matters really!!! A few select days on the Westside as well scoring some rare spots that fire on big west swells. It was truly an honor to get to sail in front of Hoyle Schweitzer's house last month, Matt spotted Cooper and I checking this spot near his house and brought us over to launch and sail the break up from his house, it was down the line head hi ... |

"-Sri Lanka is up and running with the 07 Flatwater sail production, finalized by me just a few days ago. Our production source has just finished their windsurf sail production area, and it looks fantastic- one of the biggest, brightest, cleanest work spaces I have ever seen. I am confident that they will produce quality better than ever for us.
'08 wave design work is well under way with new prototypes on the water now.
We are looking to maintain the best characteristics of all the wave models, but also work to improve the defining characteristics of each model- for example- XFLEX and VISION should become more maneuverable and surf performance oriented. ICON should be improved for range and handling- the most important thing fo ... |

Since his time in Jeri, Brazil is almost up, we will bet you ten to one that Ascanio D' Ascanio is without a doubt busy squeezing in a couple Ponch's, Willy skippers and what not before packing it up. We'll even bet you that he's still in his boardshorts and harness dripping saltwater when he gets on the plane, anything to get one or two more tricks nailed before it's time to head home to Ibiza. Whether he'll have the time to unpack or not before heading down to South Africa's Cape Town for some more wind and waves on January 10th is hard to say, but with plans for yet another spring on Maui it's safe to say that this guy gets a lot of windsurfing done. Check out some pictures of Ascanio making the most of his time in Jeri, Brazil. He even included some ...

"āThere have been many days on the water lately and sessions seem to be sailed with a little less urgency after the end of the event, soul carves and the hitting big airs with not caring if its a make or not, the judges are not scoring anymore so its all out shred missions going down. Shout-outs to all Simmer Team Riders worldwide for a ripping 2007 !!!"

New Zealand's Mike La Franchie... |
SIMMER NEWSLETTER N.10 2006 |
By admin on 12/7/2006 |
|
While a lot of people are stuck in winter right now things are just warming up for New Zealand's Mike La Franchie who's been making the most out of the last winter/spring swells. While carving mast high walls with everything from 40 knots to non-existent winds on the inside, Mike is relying heavily on his Icon's, which he describes like this:
"-My Icons are handling very well throughout the full range of wind conditions. Whether sailing under or over powered they still feel stable in my hands, with a steady pull of power to drive me through bottom turns."
Yet another statement that further proves the Icon's worldwide ability to handle any spot, in any conditions at any time.

Francisco Porcella on the other hand is one of those who's stuck with winter right now, but since he's on Maui it doesn't get too cold and waves are huge so he just got himself a few bombs at Outer Spreck's including a triple mast high wave a week or so ago. After that he cooled down with some mast high, side off, down the line days at Ho'okipa only to find out Wind Mag ... |
